Purple Plume Gorgonia, Muriceopsis flavida, also called the "Rough Sea Plume"
Purple Plume Gorgonia, Muriceopsis flavida, also called the "Rough Sea Plume". This is a rather common, shallow water gorgonia found throughout the tropical Western Atlantic. Like most shallow water gorgonia, it is photosynthetic, so it will do best in a well-lit tank. It is an active planktonic feeder and should be fed some sort of micro food on a regular basis.
The colony size for this item is 6" to 8" long. If you want a larger specimen, order the large colony from the listing for large colonies.
The colony can be attached to any substrate using some sort of quick curing epoxy or gel super glue, and the branches can be pruned and attached to other substrates if it gets too big or if you want to make more colonies. Gorgonians are also called "octocorals" and "soft corals", and are in fact very closely related to stony corals.
