Blue leg hermits are the premier algae eating hermit crab from the Caribbean, and are one of the "must have" herbivores for any reef tank. They readily eat most red, green and brown nuisance type algae found in the average marine aquarium, and not only will they remove these algae, but they will keep them in check. For the most part they will not eat coralline algae, and they don't tend to bother most calcareous algae such as halimida, and udotea. They also don't seem to bother caulerpa, but they will eat the film algae off these other macro algae. They do not bother any corals and many researchers and coral farmers use them to keep their corals clean. They will control the algae primarily on the live rocks and live sand, but will sometimes manage to climb the sides of your tank and clean parts of it. Because they are fairly small, they can get down in the cracks of things and get all the algae out.
Like other hermit crabs, they are also great scavengers, so they will eat any bits of stray food that gets swept into the smaller cracks and crevices of your live rock.
We sell only nice sized crabs like those in the picture, not the weenie little black things that some people try to unload on you.
This is a 25 lot price, so if you order one lot, you’ll get 25 crabs, two lots will be 50 crabs, and so on. If you just want a few crabs, order them under the single crab heading.
