Hairy Triton’s Trumpets, Cymatium pileare, are small snails that tend to live under rocks along the reef and are often found in “pairs”. They grow to maybe 3”, but 2” is a more common size. They seem to live forever in our system, but I’m not sure what they eat. The larger triton’s trumpet snails eat starfish, sea cucumbers, and sea cucumbers, but I’ve never seen these hairy tritons ever attack any of those critters. In an aquarium they tend to climb around on the sides of the tank and on the rocks.
