Peppermint Bass, also called Swissguard Bass, Lipropoma rubre, is a somewhat rare bass found throughout the Caribbean and occasionally in the Florida Keys. They are usually found in deeper water, and usually hidden in the deep, dark recesses of the reef. They are probably more common that we think, but because they tend to prefer to be stay up inside coral heads and under ledges, they aren't often seen and are even less often collected.
They are small fish, rarely getting over 3" long, and the size we sell is about 2 1/2" long. Although they live in deep water and are secretive, they adjust well to aquarium life and are quite hardy. We always make sure they are eating dry food before we send them out, so you can pretty much be assured that they will adjust quickly to your tank . They aren't agressive and seem to get along with most other small fish. | |
